With our expertise in the development of photonic microsystems, related technologies including nanoelectronics and wireless communication solutions, we create - in flexible and interdisciplinary teams - technologies for innovative products in a wide range of markets such as automotive, industrial and aerospace.


 


The development of new components and integration concepts for semiconductor devices with a wide range of applications is an important field of research at the Center for Nanoelectronic Technologies (CNT) of the Fraunhofer IPMS.

One research focus is on the development of non-volatile memory technologies based on ferroelectric hafnium oxide.

These are used beyond traditional storage applications, including AI applications.

To design a full memory array and use it for AI applications, high-performance peripheral circuits are needed.

As a working student, you will collaborate with our teams to design a new sense amplifier topology and test structures for memory bit-cells.

You will work on both circuit and layout design, with layout as your primary task.

Finally, you will contribute to non-volatile memory (NVM) design through collaborative design and layout with the team. 


 


What you will do



  • Tapout layout modification: Modify the existing test structure layouts for the tapout, ensuring they meet design specifications and project requirements.

  • Design for Manufacturability layout preparation: Create and optimize the layout for Design for Manufacturability (DFM), focusing on reducing potential fabrication challenges and ensuring compliance with manufacturing standards.

  • Layout automation adoption: Implement and adopt layout automation techniques to streamline the design process, reduce manual effort, and ensure consistency across layouts.

  • Sense amplifier topology review: Conduct a detailed review of different sense amplifier topologies, evaluating their performance, trade-offs, and suitability for specific applications.

  • Sense amplifier and bit cell test structure design: Design sense amplifier circuits and various bit cell test structures, ensuring compatibility with the broader system architecture and performance goals.

  • Electrical verification layout documentation: Document the layouts comprehensively for electrical verification, detailing methodologies, results, and any considerations for future improvements. 


 


What you bring to the table




  • Academic Background: You have completed a Bachelor's degree and are pursuing a Master's or Diploma degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and you have a solid understanding of semiconductor device physics and integrated circuit design.



  • Technical Skills: You possess knowledge of EDA tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Tanner EDA, or similar and basic familiarity with scripting languages like TCL, SKILL, Python, or MATLAB.



  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: You have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a structured and detail-oriented approach to work.



  • Adaptability: You are quick to familiarize yourself with new technical and scientific contexts and demonstrate a proactive learning attitude.



  • Language Skills: You have excellent written and spoken English skills, enabling effective communication in an international research environment.
