The fixed-term position is limited until May 31, 2030.
We are looking for a skilled IT Engineer to join our research team and contribute to the development and optimization of PLEXY, a modular Python framework designed for experimental physics that is currently in development.
This role bridges software engineering with the research expertise of semiconductor quantum optics in our team, ensuring seamless integration between lab equipment, data acquisition, and real-time processing.

We are advancing semiconductor quantum photonics to develop scalable quantum networks that operate on-chip and across fiber infrastructures.
Our research focuses on quantum light sources, entanglement distribution, and standardized quantum technologies, bridging fundamental science with real-world applications.
By driving innovation in secure quantum communication, precision metrology, and next-generation photonic devices, we aim to bring quantum photonics to life and shape the future of quantum technology.
Your Impact
As an IT Engineer, you will be instrumental in refining Plexy’s core functionalities, enhancing its efficiency, and enabling cutting-edge quantum experiments.
Your contributions will directly standardize data management, streamline experiment automation, and improve computational reliability for researchers in our team.
You will collaborate with leading scientists and developers for shaping the future of quantum technology!
Key responsibilities 
 Software Development & Optimization: Enhance Plexy’s architecture, modularity, and performance, ensuring effective data handling and device integration. Device Interface & Automation: Develop robust APIs to facilitate real-time communication with lab instruments, ensuring asynchronous I/O operations for multitasking. GUI Implementation & Standardization: Improve Plexy’s user interface, making scientific data more accessible and experiment workflows more intuitive. Version Control & Collaboration: Maintain GitLab repositories, ensure code hygiene, and foster collaborative development among researchers. Data Management & Integrity: Implement standardized storage solutions, optimize metadata tracking, and support scientific reproducibility through structured data handling. Integration & Scalability: Enable seamless compatibility with various measurement devices, compu-tational tools, and quantum photonic setups. Qualifications 
 Completed university degree in Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with at least three years of practical experience Proficiency in Python, particularly with asynchronous programming, data processing, and modular frameworks High self-motivation, ability to work independently and to work and communicate efficiently in a multidisciplinary team Experience with scientific computing, lab automation, and instrument interfacing, and/or FPGA programming Familiarity with Git, continuous integration, collaborative software development and software deployment Ability to leverage AI/ML tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Tabnine, Code LLMs, automated testing generators, static‑analysis models) to accelerate coding, improve code quality, and automate routine development tasks Knowledge of quantum optics and semiconductor physics is a plus but not a must Good written and spoken English skills This role is perfect for innovative engineer eager to shape the intersection of software, physics, and laboratory automation.
