Research Staff in Regulation and Evolution of Bacterial Multicellularity

(salary scale 13 TV-L, 65 %)

The Institute of Microbiology welcomes applications for the following position, starting at the earliest possible date: Research Staff in Regulation and Evolution of Bacterial Multicellularity (salary scale 13 TV-L, 65 %)


The fixed-term position is for a duration of 36 months.


Your role


You will work within the framework of the SPP2389-funded project “Evolution of regulatory networks that coordinate Streptomyces multicellular development and life-cycle”.

The main goal of the project is to identify key regulatory and signalling components that govern the transition between uni- and multicellular life-styles in Streptomyces and to understand evolutionary and ecological benefits associated with multicellularity in these bacteria.

The project is part of the DFG-funded SPP2389 (for more information see here) and represents a close collaboration between the groups of N.

Tschowri (Hannover, Germany) and D.

Rozen (Leiden, Netherlands), and thus you will perform research at both locations.


Who are we looking for?


The successful candidate must hold a university science degree (Master of Science (M.Sc.)) or equivalent with a focus on microbiology or evolutionary biology.

Further, you have experience in biochemical, molecular, microbiological and evolutionary techniques.


In depth knowledge and experience in biochemical analysis of proteins and genetic manipulation of bacteria are advantageous, as is experience with fluorescence microscopy and bioinformatics.

We are looking for highly motivated and team-oriented candidates with a passion for science and excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
