The Environmental Robotics Group at the Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MIRMI) is looking for a Master’s student to conduct a thesis on human-in-the-loop exploration for online traversability learning.

We are seeking a Master’s student to develop human-in-the-loop exploration methods for online traversability learning in autonomous ground robots operating in unstructured environments.

The project will leverage Vision–Language Models (VLMs) to generate context-aware queries, enabling robots to balance self-directed exploration with targeted human guidance under uncertainty.

You’ll design a VLM-based query module and integrate it into an exploration policy, with validation in simulation and on real platforms.
