Join our development team as Engineering Manager!

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead multiple engineering teams
to deliver our game backend and platform services.

Specifically, you will oversee ~12 developers working in three different tracks focusing on critical projects, including extracting microservices from our PHP monolith, improving
and modularizing our game server, and enhancing our core platform/operations infrastructure.

In this
role, you will prioritize team development, and process excellence over hands-on coding.
You’ll collaborate closely with producers and other stakeholders to align technical initiatives with our
game development goals.

For this role, you must be fluent in English; German is a plus.

YOUR MISSION

• Participate in planning and delivery of engineering projects to ensure features and services are delivered on schedule and with high reliability, scalability, and performance.




• Identify and remove blockers in the development process, streamline workflows, and implement process improvements to maximize team efficiency and clarity.




• Lead and manage developers across multiple tracks working on critical backend and infrastructure projects – from microservice extraction to game server enhancements and platform operations.




• Mentor and develop your engineers through coaching and feedback, ensuring best practices in code quality, architecture, and testing are upheld while empowering senior developers to own technical decisions.




• Drive talent growth by participating in hiring and onboarding new engineers, and ensuring new team members are integrated and set up for success.




• Collaborate with your producer, cross-functionally with game design and other departments to align engineering priorities with overall product and business objectives.




• Foster an inclusive team culture built on trust, open communication, and continuous feedback.
  
  Proactively address conflicts or issues to maintain a positive team atmosphere.

YOUR BACKSTORY

• 5+ years of experience in software development as an individual contributor, and at least 2+ years in an engineering leadership or management role.




• Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering teams.
  
  Experience with hiring, people management, and coaching engineers at different levels.




• Strong software engineering foundation – you are technically credible and comfortable discussing architecture and code.
  
  Experience with Node.js, PHP, or Java (and associated backend frameworks) is a plus.




• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools into engineering workflows and promote their usage within teams to enhance productivity and innovation.




• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English.
  
  You are an empathetic listener and clear communicator who can navigate conflicts and provide constructive feedback.




• Track record of working effectively with cross-functional stakeholders to drive projects to completion.




• Hands-on experience with agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and an intrinsic motivation for optimizing development processes.
  
  Solid organizational skills to manage priorities across multiple teams.




• Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
  
  You can make fair, timely decisions even in ambiguous situations, and you think strategically about technical and team challenges.




• Enthusiastic about games - especially strategy games.
  
  Experience in the gaming industry or a genuine interest in game development is a bonus, though not required.
